In July 2021, AISO engineers held a seminar to discuss the topic of batteries and capacitors, and the results were as follows:

Capacitors and batteries can both store electrical energy, but capacitors can’t generate new electrons, they just store electrons, so a capacitor is a much simpler device than a battery.

Of course, capacitors also have their advantages. This article will illustrate the principle and different functions of batteries and capacitors through a circuit.

In a circuit, when we close the switch, the current immediately flows through the circuit, the current flows from positive to negative, and the electrons move from negative to positive. The battery will not be able to power the motor well enough to lift the weight, because the battery discharges gradually, much more slowly than the capacitor.

A capacitor, like a battery, has a positive and a negative pole, with the positive and negative poles inside the capacitor. The terminals are connected to two metal plates separated by an insulator, preventing the plates from touching each other and allowing them to maintain opposite charges, thus maintaining an electric field.

If the capacitor is the same as the battery, can the capacitor power the motor and lift the weight well?

In a circuit, a switch is closed to charge a capacitor, where electrons flow from the battery to the capacitor and are stored. For every electron gained by the negative plate, the positive plate loses an electron. The capacitor is charged until the voltage of the battery is reached.

When a capacitor is fully charged, connect it to a circuit for use. This current can drive the pulley and lift a heavy load. Until the charge dissipates, electrons from the negative terminal of the capacitor are attracted to the positive terminal.

In this experiment, the battery and the capacitor use the same amount of power to try to charge the motor and lift a heavy object, but only the capacitor can do this successfully because it discharges faster.

This property makes capacitors useful for powering things that need to transfer energy quickly, such as flashlights, cameras, electric motors, pumps, and audio amplifiers in cars. So capacitors in the life of the application is very wide, it can be said that our life has been inseparable from the capacitor.
